As a mum of a 6yo, and a pre-service educator, a huge concern of mine is my child and students stumbling onto inappropriate content on the Internet accidentally. This seems like a really cute child-friendly way of minimising the risk associated with search engines.
While on the search for teacher blogs, I found a post on Kid Safe Internet searching. The blog is from a teacher of year 4 and 5 students. The project was for students to compare kid safe search engines.
I didn’t even know there was such a this as kid safe search engines. I took such an interest in checking out the different sites because of a incident that happened to my next door neighbors children. When the kids were searching the popular Loom Band YouTube tutorials, mum just so happen to walk by to hear a video that did not sound like a Loom bracelet tutorial. She quickly turned the inappropriate video off. A bit off track but the point of the story is that it is very easy for children to accidentally click on a pop up or incorrect or inappropriate site.
